We don’t know the implications of our technological advances. As a result, we should tread very carefully in these matters.
This exercise reminds me of Jordon Peterson’s self-authoring exercises. I signed up and started, but didn’t finish.
I think I’ll fulfill this exercise by completing the self-authoring exercises there. It more than fulfills what this card asks for here. And I see a lot of good that can come from a review of what I already wrote.
A certain book comes to mind — Deviate, by Beau Lotto. This topic also makes me this of our built-in biases.
The gist of the Deviate (to my recollection) is that our thinking and perceptions are confined to a box or a limited possibility space. And the only way to escape this confined space is to challenge our conscience and unconscious assumptions and biases. This exercise can lead us along a path to ideas that others are less likely to reach.
If we define independent thinking as thought that is unique and novel– truly disconnected from other ideas– then we may have no such thing.
But if we define independent thinking as the effort to expand our possibility space and discover ideas that seem new to many others, then this seems possible.
Work Preferences:
I prefer to trade value for money instead of time for money. The implications here are deep. I want the freedom to determine my work schedule and terms.
I prefer to work for someone who respects both my efforts and my humanity.
I want to work on the top-tier levels of value– Communication and Imagination.
Work and Personality:
I’m an introvert. I can work with people and groups, but I need space and time to be alone.
I want my work to align with my Strengths Finder traits: Learner, Restorative, Input, Analytical, and Harmony.
Work and Interests:
I struggle here because my interests vary so much. But I’ll list some potential interests–
Teaching or training others what I know.
Troubleshooting and problem-solving.
