Zettel 202404212233 : Looking for Alternative Power During Power Outages.
I’ve had two extended power outages within the past ten months of this post. I haven’t experienced this since going through a category one hurricane over a decade ago. While not as bad as when the hurricane hit, these two outages lasted longer than 48 hours. Climate change is bringing stronger storms to my area As a result, I will likely see more power outages and for longer periods of time. Also, the meddling of foreign adversaries may cause wide spread outages from time to time. Our cold wars are turning cyber.
I used to think it was silly. But now it’s clear that average people need to prepare for disasters both natural and man-made.

We don’t usually expect our banks to delay our deposits due to technical errors.
Here’s another reason to have enough money saved up to pay for expenses should you have a lapse with income. We usually think of this in terms of unemployment. But, we should also consider outages due to technical bugs and denial of service attacks on our financial institutions. Or having enough cash on hand during a climate disaster like a hurricane. No power? Then no electronic transactions like debit cards or ATMs. I remember this first hand from living through a hurricane once.
I need to prepare this and other things. And teach my kids about this, too.
